Kimchi is regarded as the national dish of Korea. Eaten with nearly every meal, it has won plaudits for its stomach-settling and antibacterial qualities. It has served as an entry point to Korean cuisine, with many restaurants eager to offer it on their menus. We are now excited to see that some Korean and mainstream supermarkets are starting making the product readily available to consumers. Korean food has been slow to make an impact in the UK, compared with Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese, but new restaurants and increased availability of key ingredients, make it a cuisine to watch this year.
Here at Hampshire Foods we love eating Kimchi with steamed rice, tofu and ginger and garlic vegetables. It is also very popular served alongside Korea’s famous Bulgogi dish and can even be enjoyed on its own as a healthy snack.
